The Nose

A front view of XB259. Two landing lights can be seen in the fuselage below below the glass panels in the nose. These panels were the Navigator’s position for the air-dropping of supplies and paratrooping.
Along with standing at the rear of the freight bay with doors removed, this position gave one of the best views when airborne. I once sat in this position for a night landing at Abingdon. It was quite an interesting experience watching the runway lights coming up to meet us.
